Ballina Shire Council has approved alterations and additions to the Bunjum Aboriginal Child and Family Centre at 10 Hayman Street, Ballina, clearing the way for building and access upgrades at the site.

At its 23 April meeting, the council granted consent for Development Application 2025/525 for the existing centre-based childcare and community facility. The approval covers the extension of the driveway, a new crossover, and a bus drop-off and pick-up area.

The resolution says the works are subject to non-standard conditions set out in the application report, along with standard planning, environmental health, civil and building conditions for this type of development.

For people using the site and nearby streets, the practical changes are likely to centre on access and traffic movements at the property. The approved works include changes to how vehicles enter and leave the centre, as well as a designated area for bus drop-off and pick-up.

Councillors backed the application unanimously, with Cr Phil Meehan recorded as absent and not voting on the item before returning to the meeting shortly after.

The approval allows the proposal to proceed under the conditions attached to the consent. The minutes do not set out a construction timetable, but confirm the development can move ahead once those requirements are met.
