Ballina committee hears Megan Crescent lighting request
Ballina Shire Council’s B Ward Committee heard a request for extra lighting at Megan Crescent Sportsground in Lennox Head, with staff saying any proposal would need a formal submission through the Delivery Program, Operational Plan and Long Term Financial Plan.
Ballina Shire Council’s B Ward Committee met in Ballina on 16 March and heard a request for extra lighting at Megan Crescent Sportsground in Lennox Head.
The request came from the Lennox Head Combined Sports Association during business without notice. Matthew Wood told the meeting a submission to council would be required before the issue could be considered through the Delivery Program, Operational Plan and Long Term Financial Plan.
No approval was made at the meeting.
The same sportsground was also the focus of a separate concern about a timber retaining wall beside the NPWS Aboriginal cultural site. The committee referred that issue to the Open Spaces team to check whether the wall is on council or Crown land and to arrange remediation as required.
A post-meeting note said the wall appears to be the responsibility of NPWS. It also said council has engaged with Aboriginal stakeholders on a remediation plan involving battening of the area, with funding being considered.
The meeting also sent a request for extra shared zone signage in Rayner Lane, next to Ross Park, to the Engineering Works section for review.
Council was also to write to Reflections Holidays Lennox Head inviting it to participate in the B Ward Committee. A post-meeting note said the letter was prepared and issued.
Other business items included increased plane traffic over Lennox Head, camping on Pacific Parade and Park Lane, Pacific Parade amenities and holiday-period waste collection, off-leash dogs along Pacific Parade, concrete cleaning at the Lennox Head Cultural Centre, a dishwasher at Ballina War Memorial Pool and a possible pathway connection between Lake Ainsworth and the Lennox Head village centre.
For residents, the immediate follow-up is on signage in Rayner Lane, holiday bin servicing and the retaining wall at Megan Crescent. The lighting request remains at the submission stage.
