Wanneroo owners retain 50% crossover subsidy after policy repeal
Residential property owners can still receive half the cost of a standard new crossover, with one contribution allowed per property and City specifications applying.
Residential property owners in Wanneroo can still receive a subsidy worth 50 per cent of the cost of a standard new crossover after the City of Wanneroo repealed its standalone Crossovers Subsidy Policy.
The Policy Review Committee resolved on 31 August to repeal the policy, which was adopted in 2010 and last reviewed in 2012. The City said its provisions had become obsolete because newer strategic and operational documents now cover the crossover requirements.
The subsidy remains listed in the annual Fees and Charges Schedule. One contribution can be claimed per residential property, and reimbursement is available only for a newly constructed crossover that meets City specifications.
Those requirements include the City’s Development Design Specification, WD11: Vehicular Crossover Design. The current framework also includes standard drawings for residential concrete, brick-paved and other crossover designs, along with information about non-compliant materials and subsidy administration.
For an owner arranging a new driveway crossing, the rules are now spread across the annual fee schedule and the City’s current crossover standards rather than contained in the repealed policy.
The listed payment is 50 per cent of the cost of a standard crossover. The policy framework also makes clear that the subsidy is not an unlimited entitlement: the annual schedule permits only one contribution for each residential property.
The City’s crossover standards cover the definition of a standard crossing, construction specifications and the administration of payments. The adopted drawings include residential width alternatives, concrete crossovers, concrete and brick-paved crossovers, brick-paved crossover patterns, rural crossovers and industrial or commercial concrete crossovers.
The next Policy Review Committee meeting is scheduled for 2 November 2026. Crossover subsidies are to continue being administered through the annual Fees and Charges Schedule and the adopted crossover standards.
