Wanneroo defers strategic land policy over protected community sites
City of Wanneroo’s Policy Review Committee sent its Strategic Land Policy back for redrafting and asked for a Schedule of Protected Community Sites.
City of Wanneroo’s Policy Review Committee met at the Civic Centre on Dundebar Road in Wanneroo at 6:00pm on 15 June and deferred a Strategic Land Policy after rejecting it as presented.
The committee asked for a revised version that includes a Schedule of Protected Community Sites and for more analysis of what the policy would mean for leasing and land management. It sent the item to the next meeting.
That was the sharpest point of disagreement in a meeting that otherwise moved a string of policy items through with little opposition.
The committee adopted Local Planning Policy 4.3: Public Open Space with modifications after public advertising. It also directed the City to publish the decision on its website and notify submitters.
LPP 4.3 covers the planning, provision, location, design, development and interim maintenance of public open space across the City.
Councillors also adopted an updated Personal Information Privacy Policy, effective 1 July 2026. They asked for a further review to be completed before the October 2027 Ordinary Council Election, including consideration of whether the names of people appointed to advisory groups and committees should be published. Contact details and residential addresses are excluded.
The committee also approved amendments to Local Planning Policy 2.8: Licensed Premises after a 42-day public advertising period drew no submissions. The policy covers development applications for breweries, liquor stores, taverns, small bars, wineries, hotels and nightclubs.
The meeting also dealt with a number of other local planning policies as minor amendments or review-date extensions, so they could be kept current without changing their intent.
For community groups using City land, the focus now is on whether sites used for local activities will be listed in the protected schedule before any removal from future consideration is dealt with. The revised Strategic Land Policy is due back at the next Policy Review Committee meeting.
The privacy policy takes effect on 1 July 2026, while the public open space decision is to be published online and sent to submitters after the meeting.
