Sunshine Coast Council backs Active Transport Plan 2026
Councillors unanimously endorsed the Active Transport Plan 2026 at the 21 May meeting, while also referring two petitions to the chief executive officer and advancing a confidential Sugar Road land acquisition.
Sunshine Coast Council unanimously endorsed the Active Transport Plan 2026 at its ordinary meeting on Thursday 21 May, giving the document formal backing for walking and cycling priorities across the region.
Councillors received and noted the report titled Active Transport Plan 2026, then endorsed the plan’s appendix. The motion was carried unanimously by Crs Dickson and Burns, with the broader chamber also unanimous.
The same meeting received and noted the April 2026 Financial Performance Report. That item was also carried unanimously.
Two petitions were then tabled and referred to the chief executive officer for action.
One petition asked for a dedicated left-turn arrow at Recreation Drive and Flintwood Crescent in Palmview. The other sought an urgent review of Amendment Subordinate Local Law No. 1 (Animal Management) 2026 in relation to Lake Weyba Foreshore Access.
Council received both petitions and referred them to the chief executive officer to determine appropriate action.
Councillors also dealt with a confidential item about compulsory acquisition of land at Alexandra Headland for the Sugar Road upgrade. The item was considered in closed session.
The minutes say Council noted the objection hearing report and accepted that none of the owners’ grounds of objection could be upheld. Council then authorised the chief executive officer to apply to the Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing, and Regional and Rural Development to take Lot 1 on RP176929 under the Acquisition of Land Act 1967.
Council also authorised the chief executive officer to publicly release details of the land and purpose of acquisition once transfer of ownership has been registered with Titles Queensland.
The meeting was opened at 9am and closed at 12.59pm. The next ordinary meeting is scheduled for 18 June 2026 at Sunshine Coast City Hall Chamber, 54 First Avenue, Maroochydore.
