Sunshine Coast capital works deferred in first 2026 - 27 budget review

Sunshine Coast Council has amended its Minor Capital Works Program and approved associated capital works deferrals in its first review of the 2026 - 27 budget. The package was carried 7 - 2, with Cr C Dickson and Cr D Law voting against it.

The changes apply to council’s capital works program and financial framework for 2026 - 27 and the next two financial years. The amended budget includes updated income and expense, financial position, equity and cash-flow statements, along with a 10-year long-term financial forecast.

It also includes financial sustainability measures, the 2026 - 27 Amended Debt Policy and amendments to the Minor Capital Works Program. An attached capital program contains a list of deferrals, but the council has not identified the affected projects or revised delivery dates in the material available for this report.

That leaves contractors and local businesses tracking council work without project-level information about which jobs have moved or when they will proceed. The resolution does not identify any changes to contract opportunities.

The budget framework also retains documentation covering revenue, rates, utility charges and strategic levies. Council noted the rates and utility charges documentation adopted on 1 June 2026 as part of the amended budget package.

No overall dollar amount or percentage change to rates or utility charges was stated in the budget review decision.

The amended budget was adopted under sections 169 and 170 of the Local Government Regulation 2012. Council’s resolution separately endorsed the amendments to the Minor Capital Works Program, while the capital program listed the deferrals.

Further project-level information will be needed to establish how the changes affect the timing of individual works across the Sunshine Coast local government area.
