A push for a water play park on the Redlands Coast remains alive after Redland City Council formally received a petition on Wednesday and referred it to the chief executive officer for consideration.

The step was recorded in the council's 21 January 2026 meeting minutes under a petition presented by Cr Julie Talty. The minutes state council resolved to receive the petition requesting a water play park for the Redlands Coast and refer it to the chief executive officer.

That does not approve a site, budget or construction. It keeps the proposal in the council process and puts it before the administration for assessment.

For residents, the immediate change is limited but clear. The request has advanced beyond petition stage and will now be considered within council, rather than ending with the tabling of signatures at the meeting.

The same meeting also noted the December 2025 monthly financial report, rescheduled the 2026 Special Budget Meeting from 25 June to 30 June at 9.30am, and noted the Audit and Risk Management Committee chairperson's annual report for 2024-2025.

Council also approved a new 10-year lease for the North Stradbroke Island Arts and Pottery Group Incorporated at 44 Mitchell Crescent, Dunwich, and agreed the lease could be granted other than by tender or auction under the regulation.

Other ongoing matters recorded in the minutes included a delayed report on public toilets near the Russell Island IGA, now due at the 18 February 2026 general meeting, and a flood debris clearing report for nominated watercourses due at the 18 March 2026 general meeting.

The next formal step on the water play park proposal is the chief executive officer's consideration of the petition following the January meeting.
