Redland City Council has referred two local transport petitions for operational consideration after unanimous 10-0 votes at its 20 May meeting in Cleveland. One seeks speed bumps on Sylvie Street, Thornlands. The other asks for a footpath on Orchid Drive in Mount Cotton between Autumnwood Avenue and Paperbark Street.

The Sylvie Street petition was lodged by Division 3. Cr Paul Gollè moved the motion and Cr Jason Colley seconded it. Council resolved that the petition is of an operational nature and referred it to the chief executive officer for consideration.

The Orchid Drive petition came from Division 6. Cr Shane Rendalls moved the motion and Cr Paul Bishop seconded it. Council again resolved that the petition is of an operational nature and referred it to the chief executive officer for consideration.

Mayor Jos Mitchell was absent from the meeting. All 10 councillors present voted for both referrals.

For Thornlands residents, the petition covers traffic calming on Sylvie Street. For Mount Cotton residents, it seeks a pedestrian link on Orchid Drive between Autumnwood Avenue and Paperbark Street.

The petitions were among several items dealt with at the meeting. Council also revisited the Birkdale Community Precinct, the Cleveland Town Centre Revitalisation Project, potential property disposals in Capalaba, an external service and efficiency review outcome report and the April 2026 monthly financial report.

The minutes note that the Birkdale precinct item related to earlier resolutions about consultation, project delivery, financial modelling and legacy planning. The Cleveland town centre item was a progress update on a major project with staged delivery and governance arrangements.

The Capalaba item revisited earlier resolutions on disposal of council land, including confirmation that Lot 1 proceeds at market value and that Lot 3 remains on hold pending a further confidential report.

Council also noted the final Deloitte External Service and Efficiency Review report and said it will consider the recommendations at future briefings. The attachment was kept confidential. It also resolved to note the financial position, results and ratios for April 2026 as presented.

The meeting also listed a Redlands Coast Community Safety Action Plan among reports from Community & Customer Services. The financial papers noted a projected operating deficit, budget variations and capital expenditure reprioritised to support delivery of community assets.
