The Randwick Local Planning Panel has approved amended plans for 301 Malabar Road, Maroubra, clearing the way for changes to the existing dwelling after unanimously finding the earlier consent had been activated and had not lapsed.

The panel approved development application DA/258/2026 and accepted the applicant’s request to vary the maximum building height standard in Clause 4.3 of the Randwick Local Environmental Plan 2012. It found compliance with the height limit was unreasonable and unnecessary in the circumstances of the case, and that there were sufficient environmental planning grounds to justify the variation.

The amended application relates to DA/157/2021, the original consent the applicant sought to change. The panel first considered the matter on 11 June 2026, but deferred it after saying there was not enough information to show the earlier consent had been physically commenced before the relevant date.

The applicant was asked to provide information proving physical commencement before 7 May 2026. The panel said that material was supplied by 30 June 2026, along with additional documents and a supplementary report emailed to members on 7 July 2026.

On that basis, the panel said the reasons for the deferral had been addressed and granted consent subject to conditions in the supplementary report.

The approved works include reconfiguration of the internal layout of the dwelling, a new lift, conversion of the attached carport to a garage, a new balcony at loft level, changes to the pool deck and alterations to structural columns at basement and lower ground floor levels.

The site is a residential property at 301 Malabar Road, with the approved amendments affecting the Maroubra address and allowing the revised work to proceed subject to the conditions imposed by the panel.
