Randwick Local Planning Panel has unanimously approved amended consent for 301 Malabar Road, Maroubra, after accepting the project’s height variation under the Randwick Local Environmental Plan 2012.

The panel granted DA/258/2026 to amend DA/157/2021 after saying it was satisfied the earlier consent had been activated and had not lapsed. It also accepted the applicant’s written request to vary the maximum building height in Clause 4.3, finding compliance with the standard was unreasonable and unnecessary in the circumstances and that there were sufficient environmental planning grounds to justify the variation.

The approved changes include reconfiguring the internal layout of the dwelling, adding a lift, converting an attached carport to a garage, building a new balcony at loft level, changing the pool deck and altering structural columns at basement and lower ground floor levels.

The application had been deferred at an earlier electronic consideration after the panel said it did not have enough information about whether the original consent had been physically commenced before 7 May 2026. The applicant was notified on 16 June and given until 30 June to provide further information.

Those documents were submitted to council before the deadline and were later considered alongside a supplementary report emailed to the panel on 7 July. The report said the additional material and amendments had addressed the reasons for deferral and recommended approval subject to conditions.

The panel agreed and granted consent under sections 4.16 and 4.17 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, subject to the conditions in the supplementary report.

For residents in Maroubra, the approval clears the way for further work at the site, including the internal reconfiguration, lift, garage conversion, loft-level balcony and pool deck changes.
