Randwick orders heritage and stormwater checks for Dutruc and Rae streets
Randwick City Council has ordered an urgent heritage assessment for 5 Dutruc Street and a stormwater investigation for Rae Street after resident concerns.
Randwick City Council has ordered an urgent heritage assessment for 5 Dutruc Street and a stormwater investigation for Rae Street, both in Randwick, after residents raised concerns at its ordinary meeting on 24 March.
Councillors backed Cr Hamilton’s motion on Rae Street, which records complaints about heavy-rainfall runoff overtopping gutters, flowing along footpaths and affecting parked vehicles and nearby properties.
The resolution says stormwater runoff currently travels down Rae Street towards the intersection with Dutruc Street, where existing drainage infrastructure may be insufficient to capture peak flows.
Officers have been asked to investigate stormwater management along Rae Street, including whether pipes can be installed or extended from the Rae Street and Dutruc Street intersection westward towards Wood Lane and Wood Street to intercept and capture upstream flows.
The motion also asks that the investigation consider drainage upgrades alongside any planned resurfacing works for Rae Street. Officers are to consult relevant authorities, including Sydney Water if required, and report on feasibility, cost implications and whether the project should be included in Council’s Drainage Capital Works Program.
Council also adopted Cr Hamilton’s heritage motion for 5 Dutruc Street. The resolution asks the General Manager to urgently investigate the site’s heritage significance and consider temporary protection if demolition or alteration risk is identified.
The heritage motion says any relevant action should be taken as soon as practicable.
The meeting also endorsed community consultation on three walking and cycling projects: the Kingsford to Centennial Park Walking and Cycling Improvements Project - Section 3, the Anzac Parade Paths Project and the Todman Avenue Walking and Cycling Improvements Project.
Lenthall Street will not proceed to consultation at this stage because of site constraints, flooding issues and feedback from external authorities about the one-way proposal.
Other motions dealt with donations and fee waivers, the Greening Randwick Framework, a temporary Men’s Shed location report due by the May 2026 meeting, and support for residents near the Botany Street and Wallace Street affordable housing development in Kingsford.
