Orange City Council has noted $276,000 in Road Safety Program funding for works at the Racecourse Road and Barrett Street intersection, with the aim of improving pedestrian safety. The vote came at the Infrastructure Policy Committee meeting in Orange on 7 April 2026.
The committee adopted recommendations from the Local Transport Forum meeting held on 10 March 2026, including the Racecourse Road item, traffic management measures at Matthews Avenue and Anson Street, changes at Spencer Lane and The Escort Way, and conditional approval for the ANZAC Day March.
At Racecourse Road and Barrett Street, council noted that $276,000 has been awarded under the Road Safety Program for works to improve pedestrian safety.
At Matthews Avenue and Anson Street, council asked NSW Police to patrol the intersection during school finishing times. Council’s Road Safety Officer will also observe conditions there. Communications about school-day restrictions will be increased between 8.00am and 9.30am, and 2.30pm and 4.00pm.
At Spencer Lane and The Escort Way, councillors resolved to remove bollards, line-mark the intersection centreline and fog line perpendicular to The Escort Way, and write to Transport for NSW requesting a formal investigation of the area.
The committee also endorsed conditional approval for the ANZAC Day March on Saturday 25 April 2026, subject to compliance with attached conditions.
The meeting also received a current works report, with no further change made to that item.
Cr F Kinghorne asked when the Wirraburra walk footpath would be upgraded, or the trip hazard painting completed, but the minutes do not give a timetable.
Cr Kinghorne also asked whether council was concerned about daily water consumption approaching target and whether more conservation promotion was needed. Acting Director Technical Services said staff will increase ongoing promotion to the community.
