Orange City Council adopted a package of parking and traffic changes for streets including Buckland Drive, Summer Street East, Park Street, Icely Road, Hamer Street and Cox Avenue at its Infrastructure Policy Committee meeting on 3 March, and took a Jonathan Drive repair question on notice.

The council endorsed the Local Transport Forum’s recommendations, including extending the existing no standing zone on Buckland Drive and installing no stopping signs at the Summer Street East and Park Street intersection and at Park Street and Icely Road.

At Hamer Street, council approved replacing a Give Way sign with a stop sign, painting a stop line on the northern end of the street and asking the owner of the residence on the north-west corner to lower the front corner fence to 1.2 metres.

Council also approved traffic classifiers on Cox Avenue and said the speed data would be reported to NSW Police. At Canobolas School, it backed a school-timed no parking zone from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm, with kiss-and-drop signs.

The forum also won approval for the AusCycling Orange Tour Cycling Race on 16 and 17 May 2026, subject to conditional approval.

In a separate airport item, council acknowledged the Airport Community Committee report, accepted its recommendation and adopted the remainder of the minutes. The emergency helicopter retrieval base at Orange Airport will be named the Glenn Taylor Hangar in honour of Glenn Taylor.

The unresolved maintenance issue came up during the current works report. Cr McDonell asked how long it would be before the spring under the road surface and unsafe barriers on Jonathan Drive were fixed. The question was taken on notice.

Council also acknowledged the current works report.

The transport changes affect several parts of Orange at once, including Buckland Drive, Summer Street East, Park Street, Icely Road, Hamer Street, Cox Avenue and Canobolas School. The Jonathan Drive question leaves a road safety concern awaiting a later answer.

No votes were recorded against the airport and transport recommendations.
