John Davis Stadium tender update deferred as sporting users await details

Sporting users and potential suppliers are still waiting for information about the main field surface at John Davis Stadium after Orange City Council deferred an update on the tender.

Cr T Greenhalgh asked for an update during the Infrastructure Policy Committee’s discussion of the Current Works report on 1 September. The chief executive said the information would be provided to councillors at a later date.

No tender outcome, contractor, contract value or timetable for the field work was provided. No date was given for the further information.

The tender concerns the surface of the stadium’s main field, but the committee did not discuss when construction or resurfacing would occur. The information may affect planning for sporting users of the facility and businesses interested in the work.

The committee resolved to note the information in the Current Works report. The report also covered questions about water management, road sealing and other council works.

Staff are developing a program to seal gravel roads, the chief executive said, noting there had not previously been an active program for the work. No roads, funding or implementation timetable were identified.

The same discussion also covered access to Wade Park for cricket after the Orange Rodeo. The chief executive said he did not believe there had been a delay when the event was held there the previous year.
