Liverpool City Council backed $23,580 in community grants, $28,950 in sponsorships and up to $2,500 for Connection Camp buses at its 25 February meeting.
Liverpool City Council approved $23,580 in community grants, $28,950 in community sponsorships and up to $2,500 for buses for Connection Camp at its ordinary meeting on 25 February 2026.
Councillors declared the Connection Camp motion urgent and carried it unanimously. The program is a free sports and friendship event for children aged 7 to 12, due to run on 14 and 15 April 2026 at Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence.
The motion backed council branding support and funding for the use of council buses. It also required the Mayor to write to Connection Camp to acknowledge the program value and its community and social cohesion benefits to Liverpool youth.
The council also endorsed the grant round for three projects. The Australian Peace Association was awarded $3,580 for Impulse and RE-ACT(ion) Recovery, Empowerment, Action, Change, Transformation. WSYD Moving Liverpool received $10,000 for Local Active Partnership. The Iraqi Australian University Graduate Forum Incorporated received $10,000 for EmpowerHer: Health, Harmony & Hope Across Cultures - International Women's Day 2026.
Under sponsorships, council backed $8,950 for Delta TV Australia Incorporated's Community Musical Event, $10,000 for Multicultural Festivals Australia Incorporated's Ramadan Eid Bazaar Festival and $10,000 for Edmondson Park Bardia Nepalese Community Incorporated's Unity in Diversity: Nepali New Year 2083 Southwest Sydney.
Councillors adopted an updated Busking Policy after review and public exhibition produced no feedback. The policy sets the rules for buskers using public spaces across Liverpool.
Planning matters also took up part of the meeting. Council endorsed in principle a site-specific development control plan for 93-145 Hoxton Park Road, 49 and 51 Maryvale Avenue, 260 Memorial Avenue and 20 and 48 Dale Avenue in Liverpool, and approved public exhibition of the draft plan.
Mayor Ned Mannoun left the chamber for that item after declaring an interest, and Deputy Mayor Harle took the chair at 4.41pm. The motion was carried 5-1, with Clr Ristevski voting against.
Council deferred the Draft Woodward Park Masterplan and sent the Media Policy to the next Governance Committee meeting for discussion.
Councillors also endorsed a $100,000 case study and options analysis on commercialising circular economy activities, with the funding source corrected to the Waste Levy Reserve. The meeting noted the Quarter 2 budget review and approved budget variations for 2025/26.
