Replacement fencing works at a Wahroonga childcare centre have been approved by the Ku-ring-gai Local Planning Panel, clearing the way for changes to the site’s street frontage, internal fencing and an internal railing.

The panel granted development consent for application eDA0683/25 for the works at 60 Coonanbarra Road, also known as 23 Millewa Avenue, at its 16 March meeting. The approval covers an existing childcare centre and is subject to the conditions set out in the Development Assessment Report.

For nearby residents and families using the centre, the decision relates to changes to the site’s fencing rather than an expansion of the use. The minutes show the panel found the proposal to be in the public interest and noted that community notification was carried out under Council’s Community Participation Plan, with no submissions received.

The same meeting also dealt with another childcare fencing matter at 116 Fox Valley Road, Wahroonga, where the panel approved replacement boundary fencing with amended conditions. Those amendments required consistent black finishes to boundary fencing and gates, and included tree protection measures such as setbacks from tree trunks and limits on ground disturbance near trees.

In a separate decision, the panel approved demolition of existing structures and Torrens title subdivision of one lot into two at 4 Maunder Avenue, St Ives, with an added condition making clear the consent does not authorise indicative building footprints, a double garage or an internal driveway shown on some plans. The panel said those elements would need separate approval if pursued.

The Wahroonga fencing consent will lapse if the approved works are not physically commenced within five years of the Notice of Determination, under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. Applicants can proceed once the formal notice is issued and subject to the consent conditions.
