Ipswich City Council has noted a major cost overrun on bank stabilisation works at Marie Street, Goodna, with the contract value reaching $2,243,108.89 ex GST. The Finance and Governance Committee backed the report on 19 May 2026 and delegated contractual action to chief executive officer Sonia Cooper.

Contract 5326, Embankment Stabilisation Works at Marie Street, began with an original value of $1,144,883.50 ex GST and an approved contingency allowance of $114,488.35 ex GST. The report said unplanned works and delays, mainly caused by Tropical Cyclone Alfred, used the full contingency and drove contingency spending to $1,098,225.39 ex GST.

The project was completed in March 2026. No further variations were required after practical completion.

The committee resolution recorded that the contract had exceeded the approved contingency and that council should receive and note the overrun. It also authorised the chief executive officer to take the contractual action needed to implement the decision.

The Goodna item sat alongside a broader set of decisions. Councillors also backed easements for Urban Utilities at 214 Chermside Road, Basin Pocket, and 49 Lacewing Street, Rosewood, and adopted the 2026-27 fees and charges schedule from 1 July 2026.

The Rosewood easements are for water and sewerage purposes and service the adjoining approved residential development at 126 Nielsen Road. The Basin Pocket easement is for sewerage purposes at 214 Chermside Road.

The committee also adopted revised Standing and Advisory Committee terms of reference, with amendments arising from the Multicultural Advisory Committee review.

For Goodna, the formal note confirms the council has already absorbed substantial extra spending on embankment repairs after storm-related damage and delays. For Basin Pocket and Rosewood, the meeting cleared the way for utility easement negotiations to be finalised by the chief executive officer.
