Ipswich City Council has approved an increase in its Volvo waste truck servicing contract from $9.3 million to about $12.623 million and extended it to 30 June 2035.

Ipswich City Council has approved a lift in its Contract 22700 for the onsite servicing and maintenance of Volvo waste collection vehicles, increasing the value from $9.3 million to about $12.623 million and extending it from 31 May 2032 to 30 June 2035.

The Finance and Governance Committee made the decision at its 17 March 2026 meeting, where councillors also backed delegation to the chief executive officer to take the contractual action needed to implement the variation.

The minutes say the contract covers Volvo side-lift waste collection and compaction trucks. The increase is intended to accommodate additional trucks and services, and to standardise maintenance and warranties across the specialised fleet so service delivery continues.

That matters for households because regular rubbish collection depends on the trucks being serviced and on the fleet staying on the road.

The same meeting also approved the use of Local Buy arrangement LB333 for electricity procurement for council’s small contestable sites. The estimated contract value is $3.4 million excluding GST over about three years to 31 August 2029, with the chief executive officer delegated to take contractual action.

Councillors also approved an easement over council land at 133 Champions Way, Willowbank, in favour of Energex Limited. The easement is for electricity supply works linked to a padmount transformer in the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct, and the CEO was authorised to negotiate and finalise the easement terms.

Earlier in the meeting, the committee moved from closed session to open session at 11.09am before returning to public contract business.

The minutes also include a separate land disposal item for Bellbird Park. That entry covers land to road at 19 Alesana Drive for a nominal fee of $5,000 excluding GST.
