Animal Welfare League Queensland awarded Ipswich’s $34m animal services contract

Animal Welfare League Queensland will provide Ipswich City Council’s animal management and welfare services under an approximate $34 million contract, excluding GST, for five years.

The Finance and Governance Committee awarded Tender 251113-000128 at its 11 August meeting. Council can extend the arrangement for another five years at its discretion, taking the potential contract term to 10 years.

The contract determines the provider of animal management services across Ipswich, affecting residents who use Council’s animal-related services. The public decision does not state the service locations, performance measures or breakdown of the contract value.

Chief Executive Officer Sonia Cooper was given authority to take the contractual action required to implement the award.

The tender recommendation was considered in closed session before the committee returned to open session. The motion was then put and carried.

The award was one of several major contracts considered by the committee. Council also awarded The Landscape Construction Company Pty Ltd an approximate $3.1 million contract, excluding GST, for priority streetscapes design and construction under the Ipswich Greening Project.

Council also approved increasing estimated expenditure under its retail landscaping contract with Upstallers Pty Ltd to $3.05 million, excluding GST. The increase was $1.15 million from the original approved value.

The animal management contract is for an initial five-year term. A further five-year term is available only at Council’s discretion, and the public decision does not state the supplier’s detailed contractual obligations.
