Ipswich defers Nicholas Street Precinct lease vote
Ipswich City Council has deferred a confidential lease proposal for Tenancy 2B05-7 at Tulmur Walk to its April committee meeting, leaving the matter unresolved for now.
Ipswich City Council has deferred a confidential lease proposal for Tenancy 2B05-7 at Tulmur Walk in the Nicholas Street Precinct, after a special Economic and Cultural Development Committee meeting on 26 March 2026.
Councillors moved into closed session at 8.17am to deal with Item 1, titled Nicholas Street Precinct - Approval Of An Agreement For Lease For Tenancy 2B05 - 7 Tulmur Walk. The public minutes say the report concerned an Agreement for Lease for Council’s consideration and that the attachments were confidential under section 254J(3)(g) of the Local Government Regulation 2012.
The recommendation before the committee was to enter into an Agreement for Lease and associated documentation with a proposed lessee for Tenancy 2B05 - 7, then, once that was executed, to enter into a lease for the tenancy. It also proposed delegating contractual action to the chief executive officer under section 257(1)(b) of the Local Government Act 2009 and noting that a Ministerial exemption under section 236(1)(f) of the regulation applied to Council’s disposal of its leasehold interest.
Instead, councillors agreed to refer the matter to the next Economic and Cultural Development Committee meeting in April 2026. Councillor Pye Augustine moved the referral, seconded by Councillor David Martin, after Councillor Marnie Doyle proposed the change and the mover and seconder of the original motion agreed.
The tenancy is part of Tulmur Walk within Nicholas Street Precinct, and the report related to part of LOT 1 20 RP157021. The committee’s closed session discussion covered a confidential commercial property matter affecting a city centre precinct development.
The meeting moved back into open session at 9.11am and closed at 9.14am. Councillor Jacob Madsen arrived at 8.25am. The meeting began at 8.15am.
