Ipswich advances public pitch for infrastructure funding priorities

A council committee has adopted advocacy recommendations that progress a public document on Ipswich infrastructure priorities and use the city’s annual survey to test how residents rank them.

Ipswich City Council has moved ahead with a public advocacy document setting out the city’s priorities for infrastructure investment, with the work proposed for release at the Ipswich Leaders Forum later this year.

At its 21 April meeting, the Economic and Cultural Development Committee adopted recommendations from the Advocacy Advisory Committee dated 24 March 2026. Those recommendations noted the development of a public-facing document titled Growing Ipswich: Key Priorities for Infrastructure Investment.

The committee also noted that community engagement on council advocacy priorities will be carried out through the existing Living in Ipswich annual survey. That would give residents a chance to indicate how they rank the priorities council wants to push with other levels of government.

For residents, the immediate change is not a new project or funding commitment, but the next stage of council’s advocacy program. The work is aimed at shaping how Ipswich argues for future infrastructure investment, and the survey process may influence which projects are given the strongest backing.

The adopted recommendations also covered planning for the Ipswich Leaders Forum in late 2026. The minutes show councillors discussed the guest list, possible dates and a facilitator, with feedback on the forum agenda to be sought after a date claimer is sent.

The forum invite list is also set to include the Member for Moggill because of proposed state electoral boundary changes affecting Karalee, Barellan Point and Chuwar. The committee further noted the Queensland Redistribution Commission’s proposed redistribution of state electoral districts and the opportunity to lodge objections.

Next steps recorded in the minutes include continuing development of the Growing Ipswich document ahead of the forum and bringing a further report to a future Advocacy Advisory Committee after public consultation has been undertaken.
