Ipswich community groups secure five-year leases for as little as $1
A Redbank Plains kindergarten will pay $3,150 a year, while playgroup and pony-club sites in Karalee and Rosewood will be leased for $1 a year if demanded.
Three community organisations will continue kindergarten, playgroup and equestrian activities at Ipswich City Council sites under five-year leases, including two agreements charging $1 a year if demanded.
The Creche and Kindergarten Association Limited will lease 460 - 466 Redbank Plains Road, Redbank Plains, for a kindergarten at a commencing annual rent of $3,150 excluding GST. The lease has no option for extension.
At 56 Harold Summervilles Road, Karalee, Play Matters Australia Ltd will lease part of the site for playgroup activities. The annual rent is $1 excluding GST, payable to council if demanded, for five years with no extension option.
Council also approved a five-year trustee lease at 1 Railway Street, Rosewood, for the Rosewood Hack and Pony Club Inc. The rent is $1 excluding GST a year, payable if demanded. The lease has no option for extension.
For each property, council resolved that the community-organisation exception under section 236 of the Local Government Regulation 2012 applied. The exception covers the disposal of an interest in council-owned land to a community organisation.
The Redbank Plains lease is for part of Lot 109 on RP124178. The Karalee lease covers part of Lot 1 on RP170788, while the Rosewood trustee lease covers part of Lot 2 on RP35616.
The leases support early learning, playgroup and pony-club activities at three local sites. The Rosewood arrangement is a trustee lease, with Ipswich City Council acting as trustee for the State of Queensland.
The council approved the leases as part of its 27 August 2026 ordinary meeting decisions. The arrangements give The Creche and Kindergarten Association Limited, Play Matters Australia Ltd and Rosewood Hack and Pony Club Inc. access to the sites for five years at low community-based rents.
