Inner West residents get six weeks to comment on housing plan
Our Fairer Future Plan Stage 2 will go on exhibition across suburbs including St Peters, Marrickville and Newtown, with feedback due before a December 2026 Council report.
Residents, landowners and property owners across the Inner West will have six weeks to comment on Our Fairer Future Plan Stage 2 after Inner West Council approved its public exhibition.
The plan covers Annandale, Ashfield, Balmain, Dulwich Hill, Croydon, Enmore, Leichhardt, Lewisham, Lilyfield, Marrickville, Newtown, Petersham, Stanmore, Rozelle and St Peters. It also includes the future Ashfield to Iron Cove GreenWay area and other areas identified in the plan.
The plan sets out Council’s approach to new housing across the listed suburbs and areas. Council endorsed the plan and supporting studies and authorised the Director Planning to make editorial, formatting and technical changes before exhibition.
Residents, landowners and other community members will be able to review the material and make submissions through Your Say Inner West, public information sessions, online and in-person sessions, and drop-ins at service centres.
Council will receive a detailed report on the engagement outcomes in December 2026. The report will include any proposed amendments before the plan is submitted to the NSW Government for implementation.
St Peters was considered separately after Councillor Carlisle declared a pecuniary interest because her partner or husband had an interest in property in the suburb. She left the meeting for the discussion and vote on St Peters, then returned. The recommendation covering St Peters was approved.
Several other councillors also declared interests connected with homes, associates or property connections in areas affected by the proposed reforms. The disclosures included interests involving principal residences and, in one case, a previous employer connected with a flood-impact study. Those councillors remained and voted where permitted under the Code of Conduct.
The December report will give Council an opportunity to consider community feedback and any proposed amendments before the housing plan is referred to the NSW Government.
