Hobart residents will soon be able to view the City of Hobart’s latest annual plan progress report after the Hobart Workshop Committee endorsed its release for publication on the council website.

At its 20 April meeting, the committee received and noted the City of Hobart 2025-26 Annual Plan Progress Report for the period ending 31 March 2026, then voted to release it publicly. The same meeting also endorsed a draft council submission on the Tasmanian Government’s Plumbing Approval Process Reform Discussion Paper and authorised the CEO to finalise and lodge it with the Department of Justice.

For residents, the immediate practical change is that an updated public report on council progress will be available on the City of Hobart website. The plumbing submission does not change local rules yet, but it forms part of the council’s formal response on possible changes to plumbing approval processes that can affect building and renovation applicants.

The committee also used the workshop portion of the meeting to review waste management issues. Members were told the council receives about $9 million in revenue from accepting clean fill, that transport from city projects to Copping would cost $25 per tonne compared with $4 per tonne for disposal at McRobies, and that McRobies has capacity until 2045 based on current usage.

Councillors asked for comparative analysis of three options, continuing to accept landfill at McRobies, taking landfill to Lutana for transfer to Copping, or sending landfill directly to Copping. The minutes record that members wanted a comparison of costs and benefits, and the CEO said an options paper would come back to council covering costs, benefits and opportunities.

The workshop also included an oral presentation on proposed state changes to the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act development system aimed at preventing delays in assessment timeframes. Members were told the final submission on that consultation, and on a separate draft amendments bill, would be presented to the 27 April 2026 council meeting for approval.
