Hobart council backs tender for new e-bike-only share scheme
City of Hobart has endorsed an open public tender for a new Shared Micromobility Program provider, with the service to operate exclusively as an e-bike program from 1 October 2026.
Hobart councillors have endorsed officers starting an open market public tender for a new Shared Micromobility Program provider, according to minutes from the City of Hobart's 27 April meeting.
The council resolution says the Shared Mobility Program will be exclusively for e-bikes from 1 October 2026. That means the city's future shared hire micromobility service is set to continue under an e-bike-only model.
The decision was made under item 11, Shared Micromobility Program, Next Steps. The motion was carried.
The meeting minutes also record a public statement from Chris Merridew that referred to e-bikes and public liability insurance, but the resolution adopted by council was limited to starting the tender process and setting the future program as e-bike only.
The tender decision was one of several transport and public-space matters considered at the meeting. Councillors also received and noted material about proposed dog facilities at Lower Wellesley Park, including a response to a public question taken on notice and a deputation from Amanda Sinclair and Lucy Musik.
Under the adopted resolution, the next formal step is for council officers to begin the tender process ahead of the new program's planned 1 October 2026 start date.
