City of Gold Coast's Transport and Infrastructure Committee has recommended no new traffic calming at the Cottesloe Drive and Rio Vista Boulevard intersection in Mermaid Waters, and backed retaining the current 60 km/h speed limit on Cottesloe Drive.

The recommendation came after a traffic investigation triggered by a petition about safety at the intersection. In the committee's 3 March public minutes, councillors recommended that Council note the findings, keep the existing speed limit and support no additional traffic calming measures at the site.

The minutes state the existing roundabout, signage, line marking and pedestrian facilities are compliant with relevant standards and considered appropriate for current conditions. The committee also noted the endorsement of the Speed Management Committee to retain the 60 km/h limit on Cottesloe Drive.

For residents and regular road users in Mermaid Waters, the practical effect is that no speed limit reduction or extra traffic calming is being recommended at this intersection as part of the petition response.

The committee further recommended that the lead petitioner be advised of Council's decision and asked to inform the other petitioners.

At the same meeting, the committee recommended against expanding the current Council Cab contract area because of service impacts and the limited time left on the contract. However, it supported City Administration's intent to enter a new contract to continue the service.

In a changed recommendation, the committee also supported including Willow Vale, Bonogin and Mount Nathan in a future Council Cab service area expansion, along with a clause allowing special consideration for residents outside the service area.

Councillors also dealt with the future of the two-level Bruce Bishop Carpark in closed session. The public minutes show the committee recommended keeping the report and attachments confidential, endorsing the recommendations in confidential Attachment 5, and considering any funding requirements through the 2026-27 budget approval process.
