Gold Coast budget decisions pushed to 7 May as rates and charges remain unresolved

Remaining budget matters, including separate rates and charges, will return to the Special Budget Committee after councillors advanced conditional capital and project funding proposals.

Gold Coast ratepayers will wait until 7 May for the next round of 2026 - 27 budget decisions after the City of Gold Coast deferred all remaining business from its special budget process, including separate rates and charges.

The committee’s 22 April meeting advanced a draft four-year capital expenditure program covering 2026 - 27 to 2029 - 30, but funding for some programs remains subject to further reports, approved funding sources and future budget adoption.

Funding for the City Wide Service Orientated Infrastructure program requires a further council report and approved funding sources. Funding for projects in the Emerging Community Infrastructure Fund program is also subject to further reporting and funding approval.

At Pizzey Park, the council supported funding in 2026 - 27 for concept design and costing for the proposed Action Sports Hub. Any further funding depends on a future report on the outcomes of that work. The proposal does not commit the full construction cost.

The council also resolved to consider the impacts identified in its oil-crisis report during the 2026 - 27 operating-budget process. The City Administration Crisis Management Team must report monthly on ongoing impacts through the Governance, Administration and Finance Committee, beginning with meeting round 868.

For infrastructure linked to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, officers were directed to seek state and federal funding and appropriate private investment. Projects that are not fully funded are to be considered in the 2026 - 27 and future budget processes.

Draft Separate Rates and Charges 2026 - 27 was listed for confidential consideration, but no final rates or charge amounts were adopted. The outstanding matters are scheduled to return to the Special Budget Committee on 7 May 2026.

Draft budget reports and attachments were kept confidential under the Local Government Act 2009 unless the Chief Executive Officer decides otherwise. The detailed proposals, spending and charges were therefore not publicly released.
