Gold Coast defers sponsorship policy, adopts commercial business rules
The City of Gold Coast committee adopted a Commercial Business Unit Policy, pushed a new Sponsorship Policy to a future meeting, and backed procurement rules at its 21 April meeting at 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise.
The City of Gold Coast’s Governance, Administration and Finance Committee met on 21 April at the council chambers, 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise, and changed its position on a policy review. Councillors backed the Commercial Business Unit Policy, but deferred the Sponsorship Policy for further consultation at a future committee meeting.
Cr D Gates moved the amended recommendation, seconded by Cr N Fowler. The committee recommended that Council adopt only the Commercial Business Unit Policy and noted that any current policy replaced by a revised policy will be retired. The Sponsorship Policy was sent back for more consultation with councillors.
The same meeting also backed two procurement documents. The committee recommended that Council adopt the Contract Manual under section 222 of the Local Government Regulation 2012 and the Procurement Policy under section 198 of the same regulation.
The petition on the Gold Coast rental crisis and rent freeze did not advance. The committee noted the feedback in the petition and the response in the report, decided to take no further action on the proposals, and resolved to advise the chief petitioner of Council’s decision and ask them to inform the other petitioners.
Two international travel requests were approved. Council approved travel for three City of Gold Coast lifeguards to take part in the Outbound Lifeguard Exchange in Kanagawa, Japan from 5 to 11 July 2026. It also approved an international travel request detailed in a separate report for the general manager insurance, and noted the City of Gold Coast Insurance Company Limited Board Meeting and Audit and Risk Committee Policy.
The committee also noted the recommendations and actions from the Audit and Risk Committee meeting held on 23 February 2026, the Financial Performance Report for February 2026 and the Governance, Administration and Finance Committee forward planning schedule. The meeting opened at 1.41pm, was adjourned until 2pm, and closed at 3.31pm.
