Georges River Council’s Community and Culture Committee has recommended endorsing a new Community Engagement Strategy 2026-2036 after noting the public exhibition findings at its 9 March meeting in Hurstville. The recommendation was unanimous.

The committee also recommended that Council delegate authority to the General Manager to make minor administrative amendments to the strategy if required.

The strategy was one of several items considered at the meeting, which was held at the Dragon Room at Georges River Civic Centre.

The committee recommended adopting the revised Interactions with Children and Young People Policy after community consultation.

It also recommended a change to the Library Use and Membership Policy that would lift the minimum age for using the library unattended from 10 to 12 years old.

Two event grants were recommended for April 2026. The Oatley RSL Sub-Branch was recommended to receive $8,140 for its ANZAC Day Dawn Service and Family Day on Saturday 25 April, made up of $7,000 in financial support and $1,140 in-kind value.

The committee also recommended $20,000 for the Greek Orthodox Parish & Community of Kogarah & District Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Easter event on Friday 10 April and Saturday 11 April. That funding package includes $18,860 in financial support and $1,140 in-kind value.

Members also recommended approving the name Peakhurst Park Community Centre for the new community centre under construction on lot 2 in DP 114770 at 7a Hedley Street, Riverwood. The minutes say the name followed community consultation.

Sporting amenities and storage facilities were also on the agenda. The committee noted the results of a Sports Advisory Committee workshop held on 13 November 2025, and said council officers would conduct broader community consultation on a proposed mixed management model before a future report returns to Council.

The committee also received and noted reports on Beverley Park Golf Club, including the finance report to January 2026 and the public rounds report covering March 2025 to February 2026.
