Georges River backs earlier waste truck starts in six-month trial
Georges River Council’s Assets and Infrastructure Committee recommended earlier waste collection on parts of Bonds Road and Stoney Creek Road for six months, and permanent start-time changes on Broadarrow Road, Connells Point Road, Forest Road, Dover Park East and Swanns Lane.
Georges River Council’s Assets and Infrastructure Committee has recommended a six-month trial of earlier waste collection start times on parts of Bonds Road and Stoney Creek Road, and permanent changes on Broadarrow Road, Connells Point Road, Forest Road, Dover Park East and Swanns Lane.
The committee backed the Local Transport Forum package at its meeting on 9 March 2026 at Hurstville. It recommended waste trucks start at 5am on Bonds Road between Forest Road and Romilly Street, down from 6am, and at 4am on Stoney Creek Road between Kingsgrove Road, Kingsgrove and King Georges Road, Beverley Hills, down from 4.30am.
Residents in the trial areas are to be notified before the change begins, with feedback options available during the trial period.
The minutes say Veolia explained the proposed changes and the complaint logging that would apply during the trial. If repeated breaches are recorded, defined as more than three a month, the General Manager can revoke the trial.
At the end of the six months, council staff are to report back to the Local Transport Forum with an evaluation of the trial outcomes and a long-term recommendation.
The committee also recommended permanent earlier waste collection start times on Broadarrow Road, Riverwood, from Wilson Street to Bonds Road, at 5am. The other streets named for permanent changes were Connells Point Road, Forest Road, Dover Park East and Swanns Lane.
The waste items were part of a broader Local Transport Forum report that also covered traffic and parking changes in Carlton, South Hurstville and Penshurst. In Carlton, the committee recommended a six-month trial extending the Kiss & Ride area on Ecole Street and adding timed left-turn restrictions during school hours on Ecole Street and Ecole Lane.
In South Hurstville, it recommended a 10m No Stopping zone on the northern kerb side of Morshead Drive, south of Rickard Road, near Sans Souci Leisure Centre.
Penshurst was also on the agenda. The committee recommended road closures on Bridge Street, between Penshurst Street and Apsley Street, and Connelly Street, between Forest Road and Bridge Street, for the Penshurst RSL Club’s ANZAC Day service on 19 April 2026.
It also recommended Council barricade 14 car parking spaces outside the memorial on Bridge Street at least 24 hours before the march, and that Penshurst RSL Club notify affected residents and businesses at least one week before the closures. The club is also to liaise with NSW Police about a hostile vehicle mitigation risk assessment.
