Georges River Council puts verge rules on public exhibition
Georges River Council has endorsed a draft verge management policy for at least 28 days of public exhibition, alongside $90,000 for Mortdale streetscape work.
Georges River Council has endorsed a draft verge management policy for public exhibition for at least 28 days, after a unanimous vote at the Assets and Infrastructure Committee meeting in Hurstville on 11 May 2026.
The committee also approved non-budgeted capital expenditure of $90,000 in the 2026/27 financial year for Mortdale streetscape enhancements. Councillors received and noted the investigation into the project before backing the funding.
The verge management policy will return to council in a further report after the exhibition period closes. The minutes say the draft will be exhibited for feedback from residents, stakeholders and experts in environmental sustainability before any adoption decision is made.
Carss Bush Park Playspace Stage 2 also advanced. The committee noted the outcome of community engagement and endorsed the concept design to proceed to detailed design and construction.
Transport items were also adopted unanimously. The Local Transport Forum recommendations covered parking and stopping changes in Peakhurst and Woodlands Avenue, along with other local traffic controls.
In Peakhurst, the recommendations include ‘No Stopping’ restrictions at the intersection of Baumans Road and Meadowland Road. They also include ‘1/2P, 8:30am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 8:30am to 12:30pm Saturday’ parking restrictions on the southern side of Meadowland Road near Baumans Road.
In Lugarno, Woodlands Avenue will see ‘No Parking’ restrictions converted to ‘No Stopping’ restrictions east of Boronia Parade, with the ‘No Stopping’ restrictions fronting No. 93 extended by about 2m.
The transport list also covers a formalised bus zone in Kingsgrove, a bus zone extension in Trafalgar Street, Hurstville resident parking permit changes, a relocated ‘No Stopping’ sign in Blakehurst, a bus zone change in Junction Road, Beverly Hills, temporary parking changes in Depot Road, Mortdale, an accessible parking conversion in Pitt Street, Mortdale, and a priority change at the Burgess Street and Targo Road intersection.
The Mortdale funding and the Carss Bush Park upgrade both shift from investigation and concept stage into the next phase of work. Residents now have at least 28 days to comment on the verge policy before council comes back with a further report.
