Cumberland locks in rates, fees and waste charges for 2026/27
Cumberland Council adopted its 2026/27 rates, Operational Plan and Fees and Charges, including waste service charges, at its 17 June meeting.
Cumberland Council has adopted its 2026/27 rates, ordinary charges and waste service fees after a vote at its 17 June meeting, fixing the cost of local services from 1 July.
The council made and levied the 2026/27 ordinary rates and adopted the annual charges schedule. The package includes ordinary residential and business rates, plus waste-related service charges.
Councillors also backed the Operational Plan 2026-27 and Fees and Charges 2026-27 after exhibition. The documents set council spending priorities and the fees residents and businesses will pay for services.
A separate resolution will keep the temporary deferral of local infrastructure contribution payments in place from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. The deferral has been extended for another year.
The planning debate produced no changes. A motion to amend council DCP and LEP provisions, including a call to discourage a “Call for Prayer” or similar religious adoration, was lost.
A later attempt to alter the earlier LEP and DCP review resolution also failed. The motion would have included proposed exceptions for 24 Mary Street, Auburn, 106 Woodburn Road, Berala, and 40-44 and 46 Wellington Road, South Granville.
Councillors also tried to rescind the application of the NSW Office of Local Government 2025 Model Code of Meeting Practice and return to the 2022 code. That motion was lost, leaving the newer code in place.
The meeting also covered several mayoral minute items. Council approved a $15,000 operational contribution for a Darwin bombing documentary, backed a $2,000 donation to the Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club Under 12 Division 1 team for the 2026 Singa Cup in Singapore, and asked for a report on the Granville Train Disaster memorial carriage.
Council resolved to place its draft Social Media Policy on public exhibition for 28 days. If feedback does not alter the intent of the policy, it will be adopted after that period.
