PFAS results for Mangrove Mountain sites to be provided to advisory group

Residents in the Ourimbah Creek Catchment will receive more detail about PFAS detections at monitoring sites 5, 16 and 17, with Environment Protection Authority groundwater results to be provided to the Mangrove Mountain Advisory Subcommittee.

The additional information will support ongoing consideration of PFAS water quality monitoring in the catchment, including the area around the Mangrove Mountain landfill site. Central Coast Council’s current and historical PFAS monitoring results continue to be published on its PFAS webpage, and monitoring will continue under the Ourimbah Creek Catchment PFAS Management Plan.

The Subcommittee recommended that Council note the outcomes of the monitoring program and the continued implementation of the management plan. It also continued considering the classification of the Mangrove Mountain landfill site as contaminated land.

A higher-resolution map of the drinking water catchment boundary was tabled and will be circulated electronically. The map will give residents a clearer view of the area covered by catchment protections and monitoring.

Environment Protection Authority attendance at a future Subcommittee meeting remains subject to approval by senior EPA staff. Verde Terra Pty Ltd has expressed interest in attending a future meeting, and Council officers will request that a visit to the landfill site be arranged, subject to the company’s approval.
