Burwood Council puts draft budget and fees on public exhibition
Burwood Council has placed its 2026-2027 budget suite on public exhibition for 28 days, alongside a draft hardship policy and $80,000 in community grants.
Burwood Council has put its 2026-2027 budget suite on public exhibition for 28 days after a unanimous vote at its ordinary meeting on 19 May 2026 at the Conference Room, Level 1, 2 Conder Street, Burwood. The documents will be open until 16 June 2026.
The package includes the updated Delivery Program 2025-2029 (Year 2), Draft Operational Plan 2026-2027, Draft Budget 2026-2027, Draft Statement of Revenue Policy 2026-2027, updated Long-Term Financial Plan and Draft Schedule of Fees and Charges 2026-2027. Residents can make submissions before the documents are adopted.
Council also placed the draft Rates, Charges, Debt Recovery and Hardship Assistance Policy on public exhibition for 28 days. If submissions are received, the General Manager will report back at the next ordinary meeting after the exhibition closes. If none are received, the General Manager may adopt the policy and revoke the Debt Recovery Policy, the Rates and Charges Hardship Assistance Policy and the Hardship Resulting in Valuation Changes - Section 601 Policy.
The minutes also record an amendment to the fees and charges dealing with additional waste bins. Single unit dwellings will have the option to request a standard 240 litre bin.
Council approved 20 applications under the 2025/26 Community Grants Program and allocated $80,000 from that budget. It also said unsuccessful applicants will be advised of the outcome and given feedback and support.
The meeting also noted the Budget Review Statement as at 31 March 2026, which showed a revised estimates surplus of $28,097,000. Council received and endorsed the investment report for 30 April 2026 and noted updates on the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program.
The meeting finished with the tabling of first-time and updated disclosures of interest. The minutes will go back to the next meeting on 30 June 2026 for confirmation.
Mayor John Faker opened the meeting with a prayer and an Acknowledgement of Country. Councillors Pascale Esber and De Yi Wu-Coshott attended via audio-visual link after requests based on unforeseen carer responsibilities were granted.
