Burwood Council puts 2026-27 budget and fees on exhibition
Burwood residents can inspect the council’s draft budget, fees and financial plan for 28 days, with submissions open until 16 June 2026.
Burwood Council has placed its draft 2026-27 budget and planning papers on public exhibition after endorsing them at its ordinary meeting at the Burwood conference room in Conder Street on 19 May. The documents will be open for 28 days until 16 June 2026.
The package includes the updated Delivery Program 2025-2029, Draft Operational Plan 2026-2027, Draft Budget 2026-2027, Draft Statement of Revenue Policy 2026-2027, updated Long-Term Financial Plan and Draft Schedule of Fees and Charges 2026-2027. Council also approved a notice inviting public submissions on its website and social media.
Councillors later received and noted the Budget Review Statement as at 31 March 2026 and approved revised 2025-26 estimates showing a surplus of $28,097,000. The report said the operating result before capital grants and contributions was forecast to be a deficit of $2,592,000.
Community grants were also approved. Council backed 20 applications and allocated $80,000 from the 2025/26 Community Grants Program budget. Applicants will be told the outcome, and unsuccessful groups will receive feedback and support.
A separate report on fees and charges was received and noted. It supports a standard 240 litre bin allocation option for single unit dwellings for additional waste bin capacity.
Council also placed the draft Rates, Charges, Debt Recovery and Hardship Assistance Policy on 28-day public exhibition. If no submissions are received, the draft policy will be adopted without further amendment, with minor editorial or typographical corrections if needed, and three older policies from 2018 will be revoked.
At the same meeting, council endorsed a submission on the NSW Government’s Draft Statewide Community Participation Plan and authorised targeted community communication during the exhibition period. It also noted the quarterly progress report on the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program and tabled first-time and updated disclosures of interest returns.
The financial documents will return to council after the exhibition period, with officers to prepare a report summarising any submissions received.
