Temporary road closures and traffic changes for ANZAC Day events across parts of the Bega Valley have been approved, with Bega Valley Shire Council signing off on Local Traffic Forum recommendations for 25 April 2026.

At its 25 February meeting, council adopted the forum’s recommendations covering ANZAC Day marches and services in Bega, Bemboka and Tathra, as well as other towns including Merimbula, Pambula, Wolumla, Eden, Cobargo, Candelo and Bermagui. The same item also endorsed use of the Chandos Street bus stop in Eden for cruise ship operations, as outlined in the meeting summary provided.

For Bega, the approved arrangements include dawn and morning services, with temporary closures on sections of Auckland Street and Carp Street for the dawn proceedings, and Gipps Street and Carp Street for the morning proceedings. In Tathra, sections of the Bega Street service road are to close for dawn and morning services. In Bemboka, Loftus Street is to close for the local march and service, while any temporary closure of the Snowy Mountains Highway remains a matter for Transport for NSW.

Residents should expect changed traffic conditions, detours and event traffic control in affected town centres on ANZAC Day. The minutes show organisers must use accredited traffic control staff, work under site-specific Traffic Guidance Schemes and arrange signage, with clean-up required after events.

The Eden recommendations approved under the same forum report include temporary closures on sections of Chandos Street, Imlay Street, Bass Street and Calle Calle Street for dawn and morning marches and services. The minutes also note the proposed use of the Chandos Street bus stop for cruise ship operations was endorsed.

Several approvals are still subject to conditions. The minutes state site-specific traffic guidance plans must be approved, and where state roads are involved, final determinations sit with Transport for NSW. Event organisers are also responsible for implementing the traffic management arrangements before 25 April 2026.
