Merimbula property granted $15,525.60 water-charge concession

Bega Valley Shire Council has approved a $15,525.60 water-consumption charge concession for 21 Marine Parade, Merimbula, giving the property a substantial reduction under the council’s billing-concessions procedure.

The resolution was passed on 23 September with all nine voting councillors in favour and none against. Cr Helen O’Neil was absent from the vote after leaving the meeting and returned two minutes later.

The resolution does not state why the concession was sought or identify the property owner. It applies specifically to the water-consumption charge for the Marine Parade property.

Councillors also increased the Chief Executive Officer’s delegated authority to approve eligible reductions in water and wastewater consumption charges from $10,000 to $50,000.

The higher limit applies to applications that meet the requirements of the council’s adopted Water and Sewer Billing, Concessions and Reductions Procedure. The change allows eligible applications above the former $10,000 limit to be approved under the CEO’s delegation.

The council did not specify how many applications could be affected by the new limit or when the amended delegation will take effect.

The approved concession was moved by Crs Mitchell Nadin and David Porter under Procedure 4.07.02, Water and Sewer Billing, Concessions and Reduction. The separate delegation change was moved by Crs Peter Haggar and Simon Daly.

The Merimbula concession is the immediate billing outcome, while the higher delegation sets a $50,000 approval limit for qualifying water and wastewater charge-reduction applications.
