Twyford Hall debts totalling $337,459 written off by Bega Valley council
The write-off covers a $333,000 debt and three additional charges, with amended fees to begin when council takes control of the complex on 4 November.
Bega Valley Shire Council has written off $337,459.40 owed by The Twyford Hall Committee Limited, including a $333,000 debt linked to the Twyford Hall Complex.
The additional write-offs were a $3,504.40 Shop 1 lease preparation fee invoiced in May 2020, a $940 development-application-related commercial inspection fee invoiced in November 2019 and a $15 late-payment fee invoiced in October 2021.
Councillors approved the write-off without opposition on 21 October. Crs Simon Daly and Mitchell Nadin moved the resolution, which was supported by Crs Russell Fitzpatrick, Peter Haggar, Clair Mudaliar and Peggy Noble. Cr Tony Allen was absent.
Cr Helen O’Neil left while the debt matter was considered after declaring a significant non-pecuniary conflict of interest. She said she had previously been a director of the Twyford Hall Complex, a company limited by guarantee, and had been involved in discussions about its financial issues. She did not vote and returned after the resolution.
Council also adopted amended fees and charges for the Twyford Hall Complex. They will take effect on 4 November 2026, when council assumes management control of the facility.
The write-off removes more than $337,000 in debts owed to council. The resolution does not specify the financial terms behind the write-off or how the liability was accrued.
The new fees and council management arrangements will affect people and organisations hiring or accessing the Twyford Hall Complex from 4 November.
