Alstonville football club lease at Crawford Park faces public notification

Alstonville and District Football Club Incorporated’s proposed four-year lease of the sports buildings and storage shed at Crawford Park must go through statutory public notification before the tenure can be granted. The rent is set at the Crown Lands statutory minimum, currently $634 per year plus GST.

The lease covers the facilities at Crawford Park, identified in the resolution as part of Lot 2 DP1205880. Local sports users, nearby residents and other interested parties will have an opportunity to respond during the notification process.

Ballina Shire Council voted unanimously to authorise the lease and empower the General Manager to complete and seal the required documents. That authorisation cannot be acted on until the public notification has taken place.

If an objection of a substantive nature is received, the matter must be reported back to council before the proposed lease proceeds. The resolution does not state when notification will begin, how long it will run or how submissions will be lodged.

The proposed tenure is for four years at a rent equal to the statutory minimum charged by Crown Lands. The facilities are community land at Crawford Park and would be used under the proposed arrangement by the Alstonville and District Football Club Incorporated.

The lease was considered alongside other property documentation, including a two-year lease for Alere Care and Support at 64 Crane Street, Ballina, lease changes for Belle Futures Pty Ltd at Shop 12 Wigmore Arcade, 135-155 River Street, Ballina, and a sublease variation for Sophie Fleming at the Old Tintenbar Council Chambers. Those matters were not subject to the Crawford Park notification condition.

The public notification is the next step before the club’s proposed tenure can be granted. A further council report is required only if a substantive objection is received.
